FWIW Christianity post Nicaea did not save the Roman Empire or its skills and knowledge base. History does not repeat etc ... the carbon pulse is a one-off ... but it has tended to reassert itself successively in the Holocene, where agrarian assets allow.

I pretty much agree with everything you’ve said, but I think conventional Christianity is in dire need of rethinking if it is to provide us with a way out of this mess. Nor do I think it is the only one of the world’s spiritualities to provide “a best fit with reality”.
